Christopher W. Compton
Principal

Christopher Compton is a principal of Hardwick Law Firm. He is a highly experienced attorney in the area of public finance, specifically in the areas of federal income tax disclosure, documentation, compliance and opinions on tax-exempt obligations.

For over 20 years, Chris has served as bond counsel, tax counsel, disclosure counsel and issuer’s counsel for issuances of general obligations bonds, contract revenue bonds, special purpose local option sales tax bonds, special service district bonds, 501(c)(3) bonds, and private activity bonds (small issue industrial development bonds for manufacturing and recovery zone bonds). During that time he has counseled many municipal and governmental clients on federal income tax aspects of financing public infrastructure, public-private partnerships, public utilities, community development projects including tax increment financings and special districts, project finance and economic development. Chris has also guided clients on bond matters related to private business use, modifications and reissuances, and post-issuance compliance.

In addition to his public finance work, Chris draws from his time serving clients in the area of corporate finance when he worked with businesses and local governmental bodies on economic development transactions, public-private partnerships, sports facilities, community development projects, and tax incentives and grants.

Chris previously served as a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyer’s Tax Diligence Matrix Project as well as serving as a member of the NABL Comment Committee on Revenue Procedure 2020-44. He has also served as a panelist on the topic of Opportunity Zones at several national and local economic development conferences.
